I think Scarlett Johansson is a little overrated. Wait, wait, don’t bust out the tomatoes just yet – she was fantastic in this movie, and yeah, all those indie buffs love Lost in Translation and Ghost World... but they seem to forget she’s also been in movies like Eight Legged Freaks (you don’t even have to know the plot to know that it sucks), Home Alone 3 (they MADE a Home Alone 3???), and The Perfect Score (come on, who wants to watch an entire movie rehashing the horrors of the SATs?). So I guess I’d call her a good actress who sometimes makes really bad choices.
Of course, all of this is irrelevant to this film, which was great. The fact that I’ve actually seen Vermeer’s painting made it that much cooler. Have you ever seen a painting or something and wondered about the people in it? Yeah, me neither, but this movie sort of made me think about stuff like that. It also made me think about stuff like how Cillian Murphy is hot even as a dirty butcher boy. I mean, what?
IN A NUTSHELL
A fascinating look at the story behind a painting

Loved this movie, but I still don't understand the appeal of Cillian Murphy, unless you like girly boys with greasy peasant hair.

yum, girly boys with greasy peasant hair. just kidding. i don't think i'm necessarily attracted to his look in this movie; i just have a preconceived notion of his sexiness which carried over as i was viewing the film. 'the appeal' - for me, part of it is the irish accent and the other part is the cheekbones.
